Election Petition Nonsense

So now the petition to call a General Election has supposedly reached more than 2m signatures.

So what !

The fact that the framing of the reason for the petition is perfectly valid, namely Starmer lied through his teeth and is hoisting a suit of massive policy and tax changes he never said he would or promised he would not.

But that is not how our election systems works. We vote, like it or lump it, a party into power with the system we have and they then have a right to govern for 5 years. That is it.

I have not signed the petition and nor would I even if Compo Corbyn had won. I believe in fundamental democracy (no system is perfectly fair), and representative democracy is ‘you listen to all the twaddle and back who you think is fibbing less’. In this instance Starmer clearly played a blinder duping half his own voters very effectively (the rest would vote for a rosette on a dead sheep).

An alternative view is that either that or several million were so fed up with Sunak & co they either did not vote of followed that peddling nonsense of Farage and co whose economic plan make Rachael from Accounts look like a Economics Nobel Laureate.

There is only one reason for a mass signature exercise and that is to force at least a 10 minute discussion in parliament. The dial gets moved a fraction on some trivial thing. The masses get calmed as their ‘voice’ was heard. But we had an election not 6 months ago and the man at the helm and his band (aided by the media who never offered any challenge at all) just lied and deceived more effectively than expected. They are politicians: when not kissing baby’s they are stealing their lollipops… what is it people expected ?

With a thumping majority all the newbies who have just worked out how big their expense accounts are would have to be the dimmest of Turkeys voting for Christmas. Not to mention, not a single party would be ready for an election. What policies ? What offering. We can’t just do like the last one and vote for anything but Sunak and hope for the best.

This petition is total nonsense. Amusing and the various pundits can harangue the sacrificial Labour dimwit of the day who will flap about mandates and then just shout ‘Chaos’ and ‘14 years of Tory rule’ (shame they cannot get even that fact right .. it was 9 years.. the first 5 were a coalition).

The big lesson maybe to take is that everyone now knows when a politician is fibbing to us … their lips are moving !

Get over it …. buckle down for the worse is no where near us yet !
