Deflated ....
Mum finally passed away in hospital late on Friday evening. Only been 4 days and already so much is pretty much in place.
Pending the registration (still waiting for the hospital to send over the death certificate and forms to the Registrar) we can release for the funeral. Having had nearly 7 weeks in hospital there is no issue and the coroner won’t be needed. It should be just a straight ‘died of old age’. How mechanical, how matter of fact and also how slow. Having taken her off life sustaining food, hydration and meds following the medical review, why the whole lot was not essentially pre-loaded and ready to go is bizarre. The fact some ‘independent’ medical reviewer has to confirm a legal death is crackers in this case
We got offered a funeral spot next Friday (so actually calendar wise 12 hours short of 2 weeks, but opting for after Boxing day. The most important thing is to start next year clear, a fresh start. We even have the company that put the stairlift in coming out next week to remove it. Got some health and mobility types coming to take the various rails and ‘stuff’ away.
In a sense, we are getting our house back. But it was not just our house, but also Mum’s home for the last year of her life. The removal of all the ‘stuff’. The disposal of the few things and clothes she wanted to bring from her house are just part of the brutality of returning the shared home to our home. It feels like a ‘sterilisation’.
Anyway, hopefully in a few days everything will be arranged. I noticed that the old Probate system has been changed. No longer that tedious IHT205 tax form. Apparently a declaration online and then put the code from that on the simple probate form. Great.. but cant find where this ‘online’ portal is. As usual, the governments helpful web sites dont give the answer.
Which reminds me .. must do our tax returns !
